These tours expose the guest to the real Costa Rica – traditional and unspoiled. The horse herd (approximately 20 head) includes well-trained, healthy, and calm horses – all neck rein and western tackle trained and outfitted.

Recommend is light cotton clothes, comfortable riding shoes, long pants, bug repellent and sun screen.

This deluxe tour is designed to minimize the hassle of hotel transfers and luggage transfers. Most of your nights are spent relaxing in the comfort of a beach front resort (with al amenities) after your daily horseback adventures.

Agenda Guanacaste Package

1st day Arrival
Arrival in San José or Liberia, overnight in San José or transportation to Junquillal. After check in the hotel first tour meeting, selecting the horses and first ride.
2nd day Turtles/Tamarindo
Gallop along the beautiful and lonesome beaches of the Pacific Coast. Visit Avellanas – a famous surf spot, cross the National Park in Playa Langosta and cross the river there before Tamarindo. The horses go back by truck and the riders visit the turtle museum after dinner and see the famous big nesting leatherback turtles of Playa Grande.(Turtle nesting only between November and February)
3rd day Cattle Work
Ride accross the tropical dry forest to the hilly Finca Norma. Here exists a rich and professional cattle ranch, "Rancho de Ganado" as the locals say. The administrator will ride with the group and explain the farm work. After this, there's a picnic at a beautiful waterfall near the cool shady lagoon located there.
4th day Mangrove swamps and pottery
A real adventure ride in the richness of protected swamps behind Junquillal. Hear parrots and spoonbills, watch different species of herons, discover rancon tracks, see monkeys and a lot of little creatures, that hide from most. The horses step, depending on the tide and the time of the year, into knee high mud. After a rest in Paraíso the way back crosses hilly farmland. In the afternoon visit of the famous Guaitil pottery village.
5th day Gourmet Tour
Cross the mangroves riding to Venado. Las Mesas is the destination. Here the chef of the kitchen at his own farm serves a three plate menu. After coffee the way back crosses rivers and ravines on the way to La Florida down the beach from the estuary of Junquillal. The ride ends with an amazing gallop on the sandy beach.
6th day Waterfall
Ride to Alemania in the mountains, where the riders may enjoy a beautiful appletree valley and a impressive big waterfall from a nice private farm.
7th day National Park Rincon de la Vieja
In the early morning the group will leave Junquillal with the luggage to spent the last day and night at the National Park Rincon de la Vieja. This region in the north of Costa Rica is famous for its geysers, waterfalls, and volcano, as well as for plant and animal life. A few hour ride crosses the National Park and ends at a waterfall in an amazing lagoon, where the riders will have a picnic.
8thday Departure
Transport to the airport of Liberia or San José and departure.

Beginner Week Caballito
The Ticos, a s the Costa Ricans call themselves, like to speak nicely and friendly and often use the word ending "ito" to describe the small form of things. So they may not a horse call "caballo". They will often say "caballito".

The beginner's week "Caballito" was created by Paradise Riding for families with kids and people with little or no experience in horseback riding, who don't like to start with the full "Guanacaste" package. This week offers a chance to combine a beach and a horseback riding holiday and get more experience in a new hobby.

The guest ride every day in the Paradise Riding tour program, but not longer than two or three hours. Beside riding they can do a lot of different activities or only relax in the comfort of a beach front resort (with all amenities). Because the Junquillal Area also offers snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, hiking, diving and much more.

Three Day Package "Criollo"

"Criollo", as the Costa Ricans call their locally bred horses, are used mostly for cattle work. The strong resistant and diligent Criollos are a mixture of Andalucian, Spanish, Portuguese and Arabian horses, which arrived with the Conquistadors from the Old World. Before Christopher Columbus discovered the rich coast, there were no horses in Costa Rica.

The Criollo Package includes three days on horseback. The first day you arrive at the hotel until 1 p.m. and, in the afternoon enjoy a wonderful three hour beach and backland ride with the chance to see lizards, monkeys and countless tropical birds.

The second day, you may take your favorite tour selected from any of the full day tours Paradise Riding offers. You may choose, nesting turtles (between November and March), farm life, bulls and cowboys, waterfalls, the "Rincon de la Vieja" or enjoy a French menu on an authentic farm: you will get a Criollo impression.

The third day we offer an early tour in the mangrove-swamps behind Junquillal, which are rich with many different species and rare wildlife. After watching tropical birds at a little lagoon in the swamps and taking a rest in the next village, Paraiso, you leave your hotel at 2:00 p.m.
